![]() ![]() Highly touted prospects already have their trademark skill(s) when they enter the NHL (McDavid already had his speed, Laine already had his shot and so on). Guess what? 1st overall pick!In my opinion, it would have been cool if we were able play a season or two in juniors or Europe and start developing our first proper X-Factor skill there. To test this, I created an enforcer simulating through the CHL playoffs and not doing great. It’s still really difficult to not get picked 1st or 2nd. Essentially we are faced with the same problem as last year, but this time we’ll always get drafted by Buffalo or Seattle instead of NYR or LA. They weren’t great last year, and them being copypasted again into NHL 22 makes the whole experience feel cheap and repetitive. The same goes for all the other cutscenes and player and coach interactions. The outdoor scene with your agent at the start is exactly the same and still cannot be skipped. Immediately when entering BAP, the copypasting from NHL 21 is awfully evident. However, it seems that most of them require multiple seasons of play to unlock, and with the BAP experience being very shallow otherwise, it’s not going to be enough to keep the game mode engaging for me at least. X-Factor storylines are a new addition that supposedly add more sense of progression and more goals to achieve. Haptics are there, but don’t make much of a difference. Considering we’ve been looking at the same stuff since NHL 15, it doesn’t feel like a true next-gen game. The game also looks reasonably crisp, although it’s difficult to be excited about the graphical updates since the scenes, animations and created player faces are still the same. Gameplay is fun, but it’s not going to be enough to divert attention away from the problems BAP still has. Gameplay feels more loose and sloppy with the new physics, which to me means more realism and more fun. Let’s dig in:įirst of all, credit needs to be given to the gameplay improvements. Every year I hope for significant improvements, but ever since NHL 15, the game mode has been in shambles and this year’s iteration unfortunately does very little to remedy that. I don’t enjoy the competitive game modes very much apart from the occasional drop-in games, so for me Be A Pro is the game mode I’ve always been the most enthusiastic about. I’ve spent the 10-hour trial on PS5 exclusively in Be A Pro, and here are some of my impressions. It’s a copypaste from NHL 21 with very few improvements. TLDR If you like to play Be A Pro and want to buy the game to see some next-gen updates, don’t.
